44 Down, 8 To Go (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Having heard so much about the graphic novel, Pride of Baghdad, I anticipated reading the politically-charged book. I was not let down, Brian K, Vaughan fictionalizes the true story of lions that escaped from a Baghdad zoo with a deft pen. Each of the animals has its own personality, and their anthropomorphic qualities allow them to ponder the bigger issues concerning freedom and survival. Niko Henrichon's accompanying drawings are wonderfully understated and filled with emotion. This book is hard to forget, but that's a good thing...

My next book is Ivan Brunetti's An Anthology Of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, And True Stories.
