The Daily Yomiuri examines the state of digital music downloads in japan.

For example, in the July-September quarter, mobile downloads rose 20 percent in volume over the corresponding period of 2005 to 86.2 million units and 36 percent in value to 12.4 billion yen according to the Recording Industry Association of Japan. That contrasts with just 5.7 million PC-based downloads, worth a total of 1.2 billion yen, in the same period

In other words, 90 percent of digital music downloads in Japan are by mobile phone.
