Two contests to announce today:
Hockey Song Contest
One of the reasons I love fall is the beginning of the hockey season. Between the NHL season opening and my heathen beer league (we skate Sunday mornings) starting up, my love for the sport reawakens.
This year I have decided to make a mix CD for both my hockey teammates and the other players in my fantasy league, but aside from everything by the Zambonis, I am drawing a blank. To enter the contest, suggest a hockey song (from any genre) in the comments of this post. Feel free to recommend a hockey book (fiction or non-fiction) instead, looking back at my favorite hockey books post, I realized how few good hockey books I have read in my life.
Please leave the hockey song (or book) of your choice in the comments, and a random winner will be chosen at noon central on Monday, November 5th.
The winner will receive:
The Weakerthans' Reunion Tour album (which includes a song about goalie Gump Worsley)
The Zambonis Greatest Hits album (the greatest hockey band ever)
Dave Bidini's Tropic of Hockey (one of my favorite hockey books)
The Birthday Contest
With my birthday only two weeks from today, my wife is once again (for the fifth consecutive year) soliciting advice for my birthday presents. To reduce the odds of my sneaking a glimpse at the replies, she is taking suggestions in a post on her blog. What do I want for my birthday? World peace, a president named Hillary, and cool, useful things I didn't even know I wanted (yes, I am tough to buy for, I love to be surprised). Games (we have a Nintendo DS, a Wii, and a PS2) are always a plus, and I have heard they keep elderly music bloggers like myself mentally fit.
Many thanks in advance for helping my wife...
Once I open my present(s) on November 15th, I will randomly pick one of the commenters on that post and send them the following prize pack:
The Birthday Party's Hits album (self-explanatory)
The Innocence Mission's We Walked in Song album (contains "Happy Birthday Beautiful")
Cibo Matto's Pom Pom: The Essential Cibo Matto (contains "Birthday Cake")
