The New York Daily News profiles singer-songwriter Johnathan Rice, including his sometime controversial relationship (in the blogs, at least) with Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis.

There's been particular resentment toward Rice from the blogmeisters because girlfriend Lewis came along earlier and has a longer record of respect. Also, since Lewis co-wrote seven of the 11 songs with Rice on "North," some bloggers have speculated, unfavorably, on what his contribution might have been. "It's interesting to see what people interpret as her contribution," Rice says. "A lot of them assume it was lyrical, and I would say it's almost exclusively not. Her touch was more playful and melodic than anything else."

The Jakarta Post on the upcoming Mountain Goats album:

Highly dramatic folk-singer John Darnielle is releasing yet another angst-filled album under his The Mountain Goats moniker. Heretic Pride, which is what the new album will be called was produced by longtime collaborator John Vanderslice. Expect the same amount of yelling about family problems over heavy acoustic guitar strumming that you heard on his previous albums.
