20 Down, 32 To Go "A People's History Of American Empire" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

A People's History Of American Empire is a comics adaptation of Howard Zinn's book of the same name. I hadn't previously read anything by Zinn, and this graphic novel was a great introduction to his writings and teachings. Zinn recounts America's expansionism "from Wounded Knee to Iraq." Zinn explores these events with his unique critical eye, while at the same time writing of his own personal involvement in the Pentagon Papers, World War II, and other historical events.

I have heard Zinn disparaged for his political views and takes on American history, but I found this book fascinating, and a jumping off point not only for more of Zinn's work but for American history in general.

My next book is the graphic novel Life Sucks by Jessica Abel, Gabe Soria, and Warren Pleece.
