26 Down, 26 To Go "Dororo Vol. 1" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

In \the past few years as I have devoured graphic novels, I have come to respect the masters of the genre. Osamu Tezuka, widely known as the father of anime, has become one of my favorite cartoonists. Dororo is an orphaned thief who accompanies the teenage hero Hyakkimaru as Hyakkimaru reclaims his body parts from demons one by one. Tezuka keeps the story quickly paced, witty, and with both historical and pop cultural references. Footnotes explain many of Tezuka's inside jokes and puns tied to the original Japanese text. This book flew by, and whetted my appetite for the second volume...
