Why Obama, by Jon Sortland (Leopold and His Fiction)

Why Obama is a series of guest essays by musicians and authors, where they share their support for Democratic United States presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama and offer arguments why he needs to be elected president of the United States.

Jon Sortland is the drummer for Leopold and His Fiction. The band's second album, Ain't No Surprise, will be released on January 12, 2009.

In his own words, here is Jon Sortland's Why Obama essay :

I can't sit here and pretend that I have the same orientation to writing about politics as I do beating things with drum sticks…. but as a human being that believes in the cultivation of peace and equality, it's obvious to me that there is no other choice than Obama.  That is about as eloquent as I am capable of being on this subject before I start talking shit about that old bastard he's running against.  This country has taken a massive nose dive in the last eight years, and McCain is working hard at perpetuating the same policies, or rather, the same bullshit.   The Right loves to scare people into voting for them by drudging up fear that is in all of us and making us feel like they will protect us.  The guy that goes around smacking people is the guy who inevitably gets his ass handed to him.  Let's not be that guy.  Support change, support our troops, support equality, support our younger generations that have to clean this mess up….support Obama.
