Daniel Johnston has always been one of my favorite singer-songwriters. If you have followed is music career (or seen the documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston), you know he has shown his artwork worldwide. Like Johnston's songs, his artwork is honest and striking, and a new book collects many of his drawings along with commentary by Harvey Pekar, Jad Fair, and others as well as an interview with Daniel. This is an impressive book for the artwork alone, but the guest essays and interview frame the pieces perfectly, and give valuable insight into this clever artist.
For this week's contest, I am giving away this wonderful book to one lucky winner, along with an assortment of surprise books and CDs.
To enter the contest, leave a comment in this post naming your favorite visual artist, regardless of genre (fine art, graffiti, comics, or other).
The winner will be chosen randomly at midnight CT Friday evening (April 17th), and will receive this book along with several other surprise gifts.
