This Week's Interesting Music Releases (June 9th, 2009)
Sonic Youth's The Eternal is the seminal rockers' sixteenth studio album, and their return to an indie label (Matador Records).
I have always preferred Rhett Miller's solo work to his Old 97's output, and his new self-titled album is my favorite yet. Read his interview at Largehearted Boy about the album.
The Dirty Projectors' fifth album, Bitte Orca is Dave Longstreth's poppiest and most accessible yet, and to my ears his best.
Other releases I have heard and can definitely recommend include Elizabeth & the Catapult's Taller Children, Illinois' The Adventures of Kid Catastrophe, Joan Of Arc: Flowers, the U.S. release of Kathryn Williams & Neill MacColl's Two, Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey's Here And Now
The remastered edition of Morrissey's Maladjusted is out tomorrow (with bonus tracks), as are four remastered Rolling Stones albums, Emotional Rescue, Some Girls, Tattoo You, Undercover. If you don't have Guided by Voices' Alien Lanes on vinyl (and have a turntable), I can't recommend Matador's vinyl reissue of the disc enough.
