23 Down, 29 To Go "B Is for Beer" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Tom Robbins hasn't impressed me with his fiction in ten years or so, so I was a bit hesitant when I picked up B Is for Beer. The premise of the book (a fairy tale built around beer) seemed unique, and the cover's description ("a children's book for adults/ and adult book for children") gave me hope.

The book does explain beer's history, and Robbins indeed has regained a bit of the comic form that made me love his early novels. Still, the wealth of information shared may overwhelm young readers, and the book's coyness may seem over the top for adults. B Is for Beer is a fun, light read, but don't expect anything more than that.

My next book is Gravel Volume 1: Bloody Liars, by Warren Ellis.
