This Week's Interesting Music Releases (September 1st, 2009)
Former Pedro the Lion frontman (and one of my favorite songwriters) David Bazan releases his first full-length solo album, Curse Your Branches, today, a magnificent disc that chronicles his struggles with faith and alcohol.
The Drive-By Truckers' Fine Print: A Collection of Oddities and Rarities 2003-2008 collects 12 rare and unreleased tracks from the band.
The release list is a bit skimpy, but I can definitely also recommend Apples In Stereo's #1 Hits Explosion and Brandi Shearer's Love Don't Make You Juliet as well.
For the truly adventurous, Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson's collaboration Break Up is out today on vinyl (if you can't wait for the CD next week).
Vinyl reissues of classic albums abound this week, including five by Queen (Flash Gordon
Innuendo, A Kind of Magic, News of the World, Queen) and four by Miles Davis (Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud, Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet, Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet, Working).
