This Week's Interesting DVD Releases (September 22nd, 2009)
The week's DVD release list is dominated by Star Trek films. The 5-disc Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection (also available on Blu-ray) collects all four films featuring the Next Generation cast. The 7-disc Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection gathers all seven films featuring the original cast of the Starship Enterprise. As an added bonus, the Blu-ray edition of Star Trek The Original Series: Season Two is in stores tomorrow, along with Blu-ray versions of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and Star Trek VIII: First Contact.
Television series are plentiful among the week's releases. The third season of 30 Rock (easily my favorite comedy on television), the first season of Castle, and the second season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles are high on my shopping/rental lists.
Among feature films out this week, I am most looking forward to the Norwegian drama O'Horten and Rob Zombie's animated film, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.
The zombie cult classic Shaun of the Dead is available in Blu-ray format this week.
A couple of releases for children stand out this week. Dan Zanes: The Fine Friends Are Here collects the singer-songwriter's smart songs for kids with fun videos, and Wallace and Gromit: A Matter of Loaf or Death is another stop-action animated gem from Nick Park.
