4 Down, 48 To Go "Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Having read The Diary of Anne Frank at an early age, the book left an indelible impact on me. As a matter of fact, it was one of the first important books I ever read.

Francine Prose's Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife is an ambitious study of this legendary book, its author, and its legacy. Prose delves into the life of Anne Frank, the creation of the diary, as well as its importance as both a literary work and inspiration.

I have read biographies Anne Frank before, but Prose betters them all, producing an engaging profile of the young woman. Prose's examination of The Diary of Anne Frank as a literary text, as well as its importance both historically and inspirationally, is equally fascinating and in-depth, especially in her assessment of Frank as a keen, open-eyed narrator.

My next book is A Very Bad Wizard, by Tamler Sommers.
