This Week's Interesting Music Releases (February 23, 2010)
This week brings two of 2010's most anticipated albums. Joanna Newsom's Have One on Me is a 3-CD tour de force and easily my favorite album of the year so far, and Shearwater's The Golden Archipeligo is yet another strong album by Jonathan Meiburg and company that surprisingly continues to unfold its beauty with repeated listens.
Stroke: Songs for Chris Knox benefits New Zealand musician Chris Knox (of Tall Dwarfs and other bands), and features covers of his songs by the Mountain Goats, Jeff Mangum, Will Oldham, Yo La Tengo, and others.
The year's strongest release week yet has much more to offer. From what has already been sent my way, I can definitely also recommend Carrie Newcomer's Before & After, Clem Snide's The Meat of Life, Efterklang's Magic Chairs, Holly Miranda's The Magician's Private Library, Shout Out Louds' Work, and Zeus' Say Us.
The most notable reissue this week is the 14-CD All Miles: The Prestige Albums box set, which collects all the albums Miles David recorded for Prestige Records.
