13 Down, 39 To Go "The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Max Brooks has been called "the Studs Terkel of zombie journalism" for good reason. His books The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z are compelling reads, in fact World War Z is my favorite zombie novel, a fascinating oral history of horror fiction.

The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks is Brooks' first graphic novel. The book is a collection of short tales of society's interaction with zombies over the years. Ibraim Roberson's illustrations are crisp and often breathtaking, and the storylines are always interesting, but I often found myself longing for the text-only versions of these tales. As graphic as Brooks' zombie stories can be, they are often best illustrated in the reader's imagination instead of on the page. Still, this is a fascinating book, even if I do prefer the non-illustrated works of Max Brooks.

My next book is Bodyworld, by Dash Shaw.
