18 Down, 34 To Go "The Small Stakes: Music Posters" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)
Over the past 10 years I have begun collecting indie rock show posters, then framing and decorating our house with them. Most prominent in our collection are the works of Jason Munn, the one-man operation behind Oakland's renowned The Small Stakes design studio.
The Small Stakes: Music Posters collects over 150 of Munn's posters, beautifully depicted in full color and metallic inks. Munn's artwork is simple, striking and powerful, a testament to both art and the music tehse posters promote.
An interview with the artist by fellow poster designer Jay Ryan and the foreword by Death Cab for Cutie's Nick Harmer (who hails the "understated elegance" of Munn's designs) frame the artwork well, but the highlight of this book is simply the gorgeous artwork.
My next book is Wednesday Comics, a comics compilation from DC Comics.
