Shorties (Stream Live Bonnaroo Performances, Bret Easton Ellis, and more)

Stream live and archived sets from Bonnaroo at NPR and YouTube.

Bret Easton Ellis talks to the Los Angeles Times about his new novel, Imperial Bedrooms.

The Book Bench rethinks the concept of the "beach read."

The Guardian reviews Sam Lipsyte's latest novel The Ask.

In The Ask generally there's a new relaxation to Lipsyte's writing, perhaps issuing out of a new despair. What does prose style matter, if nothing matters? His sentences have always been drum-tight, but now there's a deep, sick-making kick to his kick-drum. "I bought an energy bar, and as I ate it a great weariness fell over me." This is the cheap gag revealing itself, and a great deal more besides, as expensive beyond belief. It's the kind of bathos-pathos-thanatos manoeuvre that Saul Bellow used to drop.

The Birmingham News remembers the city's departed City Stages music festival.

On sale at Amazon MP3: The National's 13-track Alligator album for $3.99.

The Montreal Gazette suggests short story collections to read this summer.

Songs from Treme shares music features in the new David Simon television series.

David Byrne's TED talk about how architecture influenced music is now online.

Threadless is holding a $10 t-shirt sale through Monday.
