Atomic Books Comics Preview - July 28th, 2010

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books was recently named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet.

Batman: Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader
by Neil Gaiman / various

This new-in-trade-paperback Batman book collects a several Neil Gaiman stories that eulogize the Batman over the years. The setting is Batman's wake, as various characters tell us what he's meant to them over the years. But the real selling-point here is this nice little formula Neil Gaiman + Batman + an excellent collection of artists = a Bat-must!

CBGB #1
by Kieron Gillen / Sam Humphries / Marc Ellerby / Rob G

The idea here is to take the legendary punk club (responsible for breaking bands like The Ramones, Blondie, The Talking Heads) and make it the setting for a comic anthology of stories about love, heartbreak, rebellion and, of course, music.

Flight Volume Seven
by Kazu Kibuishi

One of the most popular comics anthologies running is Flight. It's a full-color compendium of excellent comic creators and animators, including folks like JP Ahonen, Jason Caffoe, Michel Gagne, Justin Gerard, Paul Harmon, Stuart Livingston, Katie Shanahan, Kean Soo, and others.

Scott Pilgrim vol. 6: Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour
by Bryan Lee O'Malley

The final installment of the wildly popular Scott Pilgrim saga comes just in time for you to read it before the movie comes out. Scott battles the big boss, the final evil boyfriend for the love of Ramona.

The book becomes a TV show becomes a comic! But this is not a comic-ization of what you’ve already seen on TV! If you can't get enough of HBO's hit series, the comic series provides you with even more tales of the supernatural from Bon Temps.
