This Week's Interesting Music Releases - August 17, 2010
Lissie's debut album, Catching a Tiger, finally sees its US release tomorrow, and firmly establishes her as one of this generation's prominent young singer-songwriters.
Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin is the week's most intriguing release as the former Beach Boy takes on one of the masters of the American songbook (I am reserving judgment until I hear it tomorrow).
From what has already been sent my way, I can also strongly recommend Darker My Love's Alive As You Are, The Dollyrots' Little Messed Up, and Matthew Dear's Black City.
Superchunk's No Pocky for Kitty and On the Mouth albums have both been remastered, and the wealth of vinyl reissues are led by no less than four Tom Waits discs (Closing Time, Heart of Saturday Night, Nighthawks at the Diner, and Small Change) and two releases by the Jayhawks Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass).
Arab Strap also has two remastered albums (each with a CD of bonus material) out this week, Philophobia and The Week Never Starts Around Here.
