Book Notes - Dean Haspiel ("Cuba: My Revolution")

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book.

Graphic novels with biographical and non-fiction topics have always fascinated me. Cuba: My Revolution is not autobiographical, but it is inspired by author Inverna Lockpez's experiences during the Cuban revolution.

Cuba: My Revolution is an intense and personal political story about ideology and heroes. Dean Haspiel's artwork, always impressive (he is easily among my favorite comics artists), excels here with the humanity he brings each of the characters.

Benn Ray from Atomic Books wrote of the graphic novel:

"Havana-born writer Inverna Lockpez taps into her own experiences to create this story about an artist and revolutionary who is caught between ideology and idealism and pays a heavy price in Castro's Cuba. Beautifully illustrated by Dean Haspiel."

In his own words, here is Dean Haspiel's Book Notes music playlist for his graphic novel, Cuba: My Revolution:
