Largehearted WORD Books of the Week - December 1, 2010

In the Largehearted Word series, the staff of Brooklyn's WORD bookstore highlights several new books released this week.

WORD is an independent neighborhood bookstore in Greenpoint, the northernmost neighborhood of Brooklyn, that celebrated its third anniversary this March. Our primary goal is to be whatever our community needs us to be, which currently means carrying a lot of paperback fiction (especially classics), cookbooks, board books, and absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). We're a small operation, just 1000 square feet and four people, but we read too much, so it all works out. If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbrooklyn.

Steig Larsson's Millenium Trilogy Deluxe Boxed Set
by Steig Larsson

For the hardcore mystery/Larsson buff -- it even includes a collection of essays on and correspondence with the author. Collectible in the extreme!

DC Super Heroes: The Ultimate Pop-Up Book

I can't think of anything more nerd-tastic, honestly.

20 Under 40: Stories from The New Yorker

There's a lot to love about this new collection, but the thing that sold me on it is that it has both Téa Obreht and Gary Shteyngart (two wildly different talents). I mean, really. Could you get a broader cross-section of fiction writers? No, you could not.

Scribbles: A Really Giant Coloring Book
by Taro Gomi

It's not new, but I haven't gotten over how cool it is yet.
