In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.
Atomic Books was recently named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.
Crossed: Psychopath #1
by David Lapham / Raulo Caceres
Crossed is a challenge - it dares you to read it and not get disgusted, not find what lies between these covers so abhorrent that you have to put it down. This issue begins a new story arc of post-apocalyptic depravity – for those who can handle it.
DC Comics Presents: Batman Conspiracy #1
by Doug Moench / Paul Dini / J.H. Williams III / Mick Gray
Who doesn’t love a murderous religious cult? Batman battles just such a cult to put an end to a cross-country string of ritual killings.
Bet you didn't know that Dr. Seuss did Word War II propaganda cartoons for the war effort. Now you do! In fact, a lot of cartoonists at the time did. A fascinating sequel to Dr. Seuss Goes To War, now in paperback.
Freakangels Volume 5
by Warren Ellis / Paul Duffield
The newest collection of the free web comic series by writer Warren Ellis. Duffield's art is gorgeous, and Ellis' story about a post-flooded London and a group of kids with special powers that caused it makes for a delightful vacation from our world for a bit.
True Blood: Tainted Love #1
by Marc Andreyko / Michael McMillian / Joe Corroney
This comic provides a fix for those jonesing for more True Blood while waiting for the next season of the HBO original series. I just wish someone would start a Deadwood series. Man I miss that show...
