Atomic Books Comics Preview - March 30, 2011

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books was recently named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

21: The Story of Roberto Clemente
by Wilfred Santiago

Just in time for opening day, it's Wilfred Santiago's beautiful biography of baseball legend, Roberto Clemente.

Bookstores And Baseball: The 1st Inning
by David LaBounty

Speaking of baseball, this zine combines two of my favorite things into a new favorite thing. LaBounty went on a reading tour, and while visiting different bookstores throughout the country, he also checked out some baseball games - it's all documented here.

Dollhouse: Epitaphs (One-Shot)
by Maurissa Tancharoen / Jed Whedon / Cliff Richards

Joss Whedon's show Dollhouse didn't actually really start getting good until FOX announced its cancellation. This one-shot is a look at 3 of the survivors of the viral mind-wiping apocalypse, as written by the show's scribes.

Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #1
by Eric Powell / Tracy Marsh / Phil Hester

A new Godzilla series! Odd timing. That's all I'm sayin'.

The Indie Cred Test
by The Editors of Chunklet Magazine

This may be the perfect book. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a contributing editor. I can't tell you how many times I've read and reread sections of The Indie Cred Test only to find myself laughing out loud like it was the first time I read it. Can you pass this test? Can you?

Papercutter #15
by Jonas Madden-Connor / Melinda Boyce / MK Reed / Drew Weing

The best anthology comics series running continues with another great issue. I've never used the words "excellent" and "cat story" in a sentence until now. Thanks MK Reed and Drew Weing.
