Do bad reviews bother you?
It makes it feel less like a dream I’ll wake up from. It would be fantastic to write a book that everybody loves, but this book is totally weird. I was just thrilled that Knopf agreed to publish it. There’s ghosts and an avian pied piper dude. It’s different. Readers in other parts of the country think I’m so inventive, but Florida readers just go: “Yeah. I had to step over an alligator to get to your reading.”
