24 Down, 28 To Go - "Lucky Peach" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

I am a McSweeney's fanboy. I have been reading their Quarterly Concern since its inception and am always impressed by their editorial taste and integrity in both the fiction and nonfiction books they publish. When I heard of their new food quarterly, Lucky Peach, I couldn't have higher expectations.

Lucky Peach brings together many of the things I love. Momofuku's David Chang (whose pork buns at Momofuku Noodle are the best things I have eaten in NYC) is its brainchild, and along with the McSweeney's team has produced a magazine as nuanced in depth as the flavors of his food. Anthony Bourdain, Ruth Reichl, Todd Kliman, Tony Millionaire, and others contribute essays, interviews, recipes, illustrations, and fiction dedicated to ramen.

At heart I am a foodie, always searching out new food experiences and the freshest vegetables. Lately I have also sought out books about food and food culture, and Lucky Peach promises to sit proudly among my volumes of Ruth Reichl, Michael Pollan, and others.

My next book is Meg Ray's cookbook Miette: Recipes from San Francisco's Most Charming Pastry Shop.
