36 Down, 16 To Go - "Just My Type: A Book About Fonts" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

I have to admit to being a bit of a design groupie. For a majority of my professional life I have been surrounded by creative graphic people, including my wife (who was a graphic designer when we met). I revere quality design and am always fascinated by the creative process.

Just My Type: A Book About Fonts combines lively prose with interesting historical anecdotes about typefaces. Simon Garfield intersperses the chapters with "fontbreaks," which focus on a single font and offer typographic samples as well as their history.

Most impressive is the book's readability. Garfield is always entertaining as he weaves the social and even psychological significance of typefaces into their histories, making this a book for everyone, not just designers.

If you enjoyed the documentary Helvetica, then this is the perfect book for you.

My next book is Craig Thompson's graphic novel Habibi.
