40 Down, 12 To Go - "MetaMaus" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

MetaMaus is many things, notably a treatise on memoir writing and creativity as well as an exploration of the genesis of Spiegelman's classic. This is a stunningly produced exploration of one of the most important comics and cartoonists) of all time.

When I first read the seminal graphic novel Maus, I was especially impressed by the characters' individual depths of personality. MetaMaus recounts the stories of many of the people who were inspirations behind these characters, and in the process acts as a gripping biography of Art Spiegelman's family. The included DVD offers a digitized reference copy of The Complete Maus, as well as an exhaustive collection of audio interviews, sketches, and other documents related to the book.

My next book is Jeffrey Eugenides's novel The Marriage Plot.
