46 Down, 6 To Go - "Lamberto, Lamberto, Lamberto" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Rarely am I swayed by a blurb, but when I saw Italo Calvino's praise ("Gianni Rodari gave free rein to his imagination, with inspired panache and gleeful lightness") on the cover of Gianni Rodari's novel Lamberto, Lamberto, Lamberto, I started the book immediately.

This slim book is as much fable as novel, a fairy tale wrapped in prose. Absurdities abound but never overwhelm, this is satire of the highest order. Rodari's cleverness is evident throughout the book, a quick read to be enjoyed by both adults and teens.

My next book is Chad Harbach's novel The Art of Fielding.
