Atomic Books Comics Preview - December 7th, 2011

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

Bad Doings And Big Ideas: A Bill Willingham Deluxe Edition
by Bill Willingham / various

For those familiar with Willingham's politics, you may have to fight the urge to rearrange the words of this pretty, deluxe, hardcover collection to Bad Ideas and Big Doings. But ill-considered comments by Frank Miller notwithstanding, Willingham has had a long and prolific career and this collection gathers up some of his most interesting non-Fables related Vertigo titles.

Brightest Day Volume 1
by Geoff Johns

The trade paperback first collection of one of DC Comics pre-reconstituted universe crossover events.

Eyes Of The Cat (Deluxe Edition)
by Alexandro Jorodowsky / Moebius

Two European comics greats - for the first time in English. In an impressive over-sized, limited edition.

Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus Volume 1
by Jack Kirby

Widely considered 1/2 of the team responsible for many of Marvel Comics best loved characters, later in his career Jack "King" Kirby came over to the DC Universe and created the Fourth World gods. Weird. Trippy. Sci-Fi. And fascinating.

The MAD Fold-In Collection: 1964-2010
by Al Jaffee

For anyone who's ever read MAD Magazine, you know what the inside back-cover fold-ins are. This deluxe, slipcased, four-volume set shows both the before and after fold-ins so that you don't have to mess up the set to see what the image looks like.
