Atomic Books Comics Preview - January 4th, 2012

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

Annotated Sandman Volume 1
by Neil Gaiman / Leslie S. Klinger / various

If you love Gaiman's landmark Sandman series, but wish you could read them in an inside baseball sort of way, this Annotated Sandman is what you've been waiting for. It's hardcore Sandman.

Batman: The Dark Knight Volume 1: Golden Dawn
by David Finch / Grant Morrison / Scott Williams / various

Just months before DC Comics made public its decision to reboot all their comics (and mess up most of their Batman family series), David Finch had this awesome Batman story going, bringing in horror and supernatural elements. While we don't get to see how that series, unaborted, would have played out, we do get this collection of what could have been. Thanks, DC.

Curio Cabinet #5
by John Brodowski

If you like your comics weird, fun and awesome looking, Brodowski's Curio Cabinet is something you really need to check out. Brodowski's Curio Cabinet may be one of the best overlooked title still going.

Fatale #1
by Ed Brubaker / Sean Phillips

While I still wait for Brubaker to return to his Lowlife autobiographical alt-comics roots, I still enjoy his noir-ish comics. And this new series brings in a refreshing horror element.

Peanuts #1
by Charles M. Schulz / Vicki Scott

Miss Peanuts? This monthly series of new original stories should scratch that itch. Maybe Lucy will let Charlie Brown finally kick that football. Sucka!

Sock #1
by Conor Stechschulte (editor)

Okay - this one is Adults Only - sorry kids. But if you want to see what it looks like when some of the most promising young talent in comics take on erotic stories, Sock will wipe that up that mess for you.
