Reading a debut novel is sometimes the literary equivalent of falling in love. Tupelo Hassman's debut Girlchild is published on Tuesday (Valentine's Day), and is a dark and captivating tale told by an unforgettable precocious narrator that promises to be one of the year's best works of fiction.
To enter, name your favorite debut book or album in the comments. My favorite debut novel is Michael Chabon's The Mysteries of Pittsburgh.
One winner, chosen randomly from the commenters, will receive the following prizes:
A $100 Threadless gift certificate to buy book-related t-shirts like A Voyage of Discovery, A Book Lover, November Was a Good Month, Brainy Rainbow, or Word!, music-related t-shirts like The Official Guide to Music, Boom Box, Sound of the Dark, or anything else.
The winner will be chosen randomly at midnight ET Friday evening (February 17th).
