Reading a debut novel is sometimes the literary equivalent of falling in love. Tupelo Hassman's debut Girlchild is published on Tuesday (Valentine's Day), and is a dark and captivating tale told by an unforgettable precocious narrator that promises to be one of the year's best works of fiction.
