WORD is an independent neighborhood bookstore in Greenpoint, the northernmost neighborhood of Brooklyn, that recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Our primary goal is to be whatever our community needs us to be, which currently means carrying a lot of paperback fiction (especially classics), cookbooks, board books, and absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). We're a small operation, just 1000 square feet and four people, but we read too much, so it all works out. If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbrooklyn.
by Nick Harkaway
If you've been in the store, we've probably tried to sell you Harkaway's first novel, The Gone-Away World. And now we will also try to sell you this, his second and very different novel. Gangsters! Clockwork! Aging British superspies!
by Cheryl Strayed
Simone sums up our love for this one nicely: "Cheryl's excellent memoir fills you to and past capacity with her palpable grief and headstrong determination to regain herself."
In case you find yourself staring at the seafood counter at Whole Foods regularly, this collection brings you all the fish recipes from the Silver Spoon cookbook.
The World's Best Street Food
by Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet brings you the best of both worlds -- either you can go to the food, or they'll bring the food to you (and when we say "the food" we mean "the recipes"). Since not all of us can get to Tunisia for brik on a regular basis.
