Atomic Books Comics Preview - July 25th, 2012

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

American Psycho: Drawings
by Benjamin Marra

Marra compiles a series of his illustrations, inspired by the cult-classic film American Psycho (based on the Bret Easton Ellis novel of the same name), in a broadsheet format. The results are Raymond Pettibon-eqsue.

The Hammer and the Anvil: Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, and the End of Slavery in America
by Dwight Jon Zimmerman / Wayne Vansant

It's the year of Lincoln graphic novels. While we're waiting on Noah Van Sciver's much-anticipated The Hypo, The Hammer And Anvil is an historical look at two slavery opponents and the differing approaches but mutual respect they had for each oher.

The Underwater Welder
by Jeff Lemire

Fortunately for us, Jeff Lemire is as prolific as he is consistently good. The Underwater Welder, a blue collar, sci-fi graphic novel is all about pressure.
