Atomic Books Comics Preview - August 1st, 2012

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

Action Comics Volume 1: Superman And The Men Of Steel
by Grant Morrison / Sholly Fisch / Rags Morales

If you missed the early issues of Grant Morrison's solid run on Action Comics in DC's New 52 revamp, this snappy hardcover will fill you in.

Night Riders
by Matt Furie

McSweeney's kids book imprint has some interesting releases - take, for example this weirdly trippy frog story by Boy's Club cartoonist Matt Furie. And by "weirdly trippy" I mean kids will dig it, but so too will adults.

No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics
by Justin Hall

The goal here is to collect the greatest LGBT comics under one sharp hardcover, which is much more daunting task as it may initially seem - as the 300 pages here can attest. No Straight Lines features work by Alison Bechdel, Howard Cruse, Dan Savage, and many more.

Questions, concerns, comments or gripes – e-mail benn@atomicbooks.com. If there’s a comic I should know about, send it my way at Atomic, c/o Atomic Books 3620 Falls Rd., Baltimore, MD 21211.
