This summer has been hotter than usual in Brooklyn, and I have been going out of my way to find refreshing ways to cool down. I bought an ice cream maker and have mined both Ben and Jerry's and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams cookbooks for inspirations, but lately have been exploring the wonders of making my own popsicles, inspired by these two fascinating volumes. The recipes offer as much flavor as homemade ice cream with fewer calories, and are equally refreshing.
To enter this week's contest, leave a comment with your favorite way to cool down in the summer for a chance to win the two popsicle cookbooks and a $100 Threadless gift certificate.
One winner, chosen randomly from the commenters, will receive the following prizes:
Paletas: Authentic Recipes for Mexican Ice Pops, Shaved Ice & Aguas Frescas, by Claire Vaye Watkins
People's Pops: 55 Recipes for Ice Pops, Shave Ice, and Boozy Pops from Brooklyn's Coolest Pop Shop, edited by Elizabeth Collins
A $100 Threadless gift certificate to buy book-related t-shirts like A Voyage of Discovery, A Book Lover, November Was a Good Month, Brainy Rainbow, or Word!, music-related t-shirts like The Official Guide to Music, Boom Box, Sound of the Dark, or anything else that catches your fancy.
If you have already have these books or they don't interest you, I am happy to substitute a second $100 Threadless gift certificate for the book.
The winner will be chosen randomly at midnight ET Friday evening (August 10th).
