In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.
Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.
Django Unchained #1
by Quentin Tarantino / R.M. Guera
If you're like me, you can't wait until Christmas day to see Tarantino's new epic, Django Unchained. So the first issue of this new mini-series, nicely illustrated by Guera, should help tide you over. Or it may be too much of a tease. It's your call. Also, the comics promise to have extra stuff edited from the final film, so it's also like a comic book director's cut without having to wait for the DVD. If only there was a comic gag reel too.
Don't Go Where I Can't Follow
by Anders Nilsen / Cheryl Weaver
Anders and Cheryl had been together for 6 years. Anders and Cheryl were engaged to be married. Cheryl was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease. This recollection, comprised of illustrations, comics, postcards and more is one of the most heart-wrenchingly beautiful things you'll ever read.
by Basil Wolverton
Although he's primarily known for his grotesques in MAD Magazine, Wolverton also had this character, Spacehawk. While being primarily an adventure-based series - it still has that trademark wonderful Wolverton weirdness.
