Atomic Books Comics Preview - January 16, 2013

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

Bittersweet Romance

Bittersweet Romance
by Victor "Bald Eagles" Cayro

Don't let the awesome grotesque Wolverine scene on the cover fool you, Victor Cayro's (AKA Bud Eagles) first solo comic is a modern romance comic of sorts - but a magnificently unhinged one with art that looks like the missing link between Robert Williams and Joe Coleman.

One Trick Rip-Off / Deep Cuts

One Trick Rip-Off / Deep Cuts
by Paul Pope

Anytime a Paul Pope book comes out, it's cause for celebration. And this freshly colored, gorgeous hardcover of some of his early work also comes with a hearty helping of some of his other rare and previously unpublished work. Escape - rip-offs, street gangs, a battle to the death - The One Trick Rip-Off is pure Pope.

Questions, concerns, comments or gripes – e-mail If there’s a comic I should know about, send it my way at Atomic, c/o Atomic Books 3620 Falls Rd., Baltimore, MD 21211.
