Largehearted WORD Books of the Week - March 13, 2013

In the Largehearted Word series, the staff of Brooklyn's WORD bookstore highlights several new books released this week.

WORD is an independent neighborhood bookstore in Greenpoint, the northernmost neighborhood of Brooklyn, that recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Our primary goal is to be whatever our community needs us to be, which currently means carrying a lot of paperback fiction (especially classics), cookbooks, board books, and absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). We're a small operation, just 1000 square feet and four people, but we read too much, so it all works out. If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbrooklyn.

WORD also hosts the monthly Largehearted Lit reading series, featuring authors who participated in this blog's Book Notes series and musical guests.

Snippet the Early Riser

Snippet the Early Riser
by Bethanie Deeney Murguia

Snippet the snail tries to figure out different ways to get his family out of bed (ie. their shells) -- so much to fit into the day! The illustrations are bright and adorable with just the right amount of clever.

Ragnarok

Ragnarok
by A.S. Byatt

Grove's Mythology Series keeps getting better and better. Byatt's take on Ragnarok, which incorporates a young British girl's childhood during wartime, is a dark, bleak, gorgeous pleasure to read.

How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia

How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia
by Mohsin Hamid

Jenn says: "This book was an unexpected pleasure to read. I've never experienced a rags to riches story quite like it -- sharp, funny, and absolutely heartbreaking."

Wool

Wool
by Hugh Howey

Our bookseller friends world-wide cannot stop raving about this dystopian science fiction novel -- and they are people they trust, so they must be right!
