Atomic Books Comics Preview - April 24, 2013

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

'Double Fine Action Comics Volume 1

Double Fine Action Comics Volume 1
by Scott Campbell

'Double Fine Action Comics Volume 2

Double Fine Action Comics Volume 2
by Scott Campbell

These two volumes collect hundreds of Scott Campbell's (aka Scott C) comic strips. Loaded with lotsa goofy humor, featuring a Knight, a Strongman and more.

'Snakepit Gets Old: Daily Diary Comics 2010 – 2012

Snakepit Gets Old: Daily Diary Comics 2010 – 2012
by Ben Snakepit

I've been reading Ben Snakepit's diary comics for years now - from way back before he moved to Texas to live in a shed - before he worked at a handful of record stores, before he played in a number of punk bands. But that's when he was young. Now, as the title suggests, Ben is getting old. And these strips deal with him aging - quitting the bands, getting a day job, and the other responsibilities that come with being old.

'Vader's Little Princess

Vader's Little Princess
by Jeffrey Brown

Spoiler Alert! Darth Vader is actually Princess Leia's dad. Here Brown follows up his best-selling, adorable Darth Vader And Son, a collection of one page father/son gag comics set in the Star Wars universe with the evil Vader dealing with being wrapped around his daughter's little finger.

'Weird #3

Weird #3
by Noel Freibert (editor)

Noel continues to expand and play with the form of his anti-magazine comics magazine. There isn't just comics here, but also prose. But the comics are why people will immediately pick this up, with contributions from Patrick Kyle, Michael Deforge, Ines Estrada, and more. As the title suggests it's weird. And who doesn't like weird?
