Brandon Bird's Astonishing World of Art
by Brandon Bird
Pop artist Bird has an incredibly sharp eye for celebrity - and recontextualixing that fame in fun and exciting ways. I'm such a fan, I even have his Abe-kido tattooed on my arm. This activity book takes the oddly famous and presents them back in weird and fun ways. One of the best activity books I've ever seen.
by Chuck Forsman
I've been digging Chuck's stuff since back in his Snake Oil days (that series itself a great comics series), and his work has only gotten more mature. He's every bit a great storyteller as he his an illustrator, and he's one of the most talented illustrators illustrating these days. TEOFTFW is a take on the teen-angst spree killer story - sort of like Badlands mashed up with Dazed & Confused, but in comics form. Easily one of the best graphic novels so far this year.
Helter Skelter: Fashion Unfriendly
by Kyoko Okazaki
One of the more important titles in manga history, Helter Skelter takes a look at extremes models go to to stay model-icious. Plastic surgery leads to madness.
Little Fish: A Memoir
by Ramsey Beyer
Beyer's autobiographical coming-of-age story is a wonderful mix of comics, lists, collages, journal entries and more. Utterly charming!
