In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.
Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.
by Michael DeForge
DeForge's first original graphic novel is a bizarre and riveting look inside the world/lifespan of an ant colony. In DeForge's world, ants are as different as you and I, and no different from you and I. The world of the ant is largely allegorical for the world we live in. What I'm saying is, we are the ant colony!
Garth Ennis Presents Battle Classics
by Garth Ennis (editor)
Garth Ennis knows good war comics, having written many himself over the years. Here he presents his favorites from the popular 1970s British war comic, Battle.
Police Log Comics #2
by Owen Cook
Owen Cook returns with a wonderful new collection of comics illustrating incidents from Carmel, California's police log. Living in Baltimore, I find these crimes relatively adorable.
Snowpiercer Volume 1: The Escape
by Jacques Lob / Jean-Marc Rochette
The first time in English, and just in time for those of us suffering through an abusively cold winter. This story is set in the future - the Earth is a frozen wasteland and all of humanity is on a giant train traveling. Each compartment/section makes up a different social strata, with the rich up front and the poorest in the rear. As can be expected, some are dissatisfied by this arrangement. This is the first of two parts. Also, the movie version of book this will soon be released in the U.S.
