WORD Bookstores Books of the Week - March 26th, 2014
In the Largehearted Word series, the staff of Brooklyn's WORD bookstore highlights several new books released this week.
WORD Bookstores are independent neighborhood bookstores in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Jersey City, New Jersey. Our primary goal is to be whatever our communities needs us to be, which currently means carrying everything from fiction to nonfiction to absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbookstores.
How About Never -- Is Never Good For You?: My Life in Cartoons
by Bob Mankoff
It turns out that a book about cartoons in The New Yorker is just as funny as a cartoon in The New Yorker. Editor Bob Mankoff reflects on his post at the magazine and a life in cartooning -- and he even divulges some advice on how readers can conquer the elusive caption contest.
Veronica Mars: The Thousand Dollar Tan Line
by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham
The P.I. from Neptune continues her format journey, from television to film and, at last, paperback.
The Interestings
by Meg Wolitzer
This WORD staff favorite reaches paperback, too, and tells a compelling story of friendships forged and lost, of aspirations and their ultimate realities.
I Didn't Do My Homework Because ...
By Davide Cali and Benjamin Chaud
At last, some creative alternatives for those who don't have a dog (or their homework).
