Citizen Keane: The Big Lies Behind The Big Eyes
by Cletus Nelson / Adam Parfrey
Back in the '60s and '70s, Walter Keane's big eyed waif art was culturally ubiquitous. Even through the '90s, you couldn't walk through a thrift store without spotting kids with huge eyes. This art was so popular it inspired a wave of lesser imitations. Working on an article years, later, writer Parfrey came upon a fascinating discovery via a series of lawsuits and counter-suits - that it wasn't Walter Keane who had been creating the art, it was his wife, Margaret who had been doing the work and signing Walter's name to it. This book unravels the mystery and is the inspiration for the upcoming Tim Burton movie, Big Eyes.
by Alex Fine
Illustrator Alex Fine takes legendary action movie hero Charles Bronson and re-imagines him in a bunch of other action movies like Predator, Blade Runner, Terminator, Aliens, and more. It's a world that could have been - and what a weird but awesome possibility Il Brutto reveals.
That's Because You're A Robot
by David Quantick / Shaky Kane
Quantick, the writer of HBO's excellent Veep teams up with pop artist Shaky Kane and delivers this futuristic, buddy cop screwball comedy. Two cops, one's a robot. Except neither know which is which. Understandably, that creates some tension, but will it completely interfere with their ability to do the job? The results are somewhat Robocop as envisioned by Andy Warhol or Litchtenstein.
