WORD Bookstores are independent neighborhood bookstores in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Jersey City, New Jersey. Our primary goal is to be whatever our communities needs us to be, which currently means carrying everything from fiction to nonfiction to absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbookstores.
The David Foster Wallace Reader
by David Foster Wallace
It's generally not possible to fit an ocean in a lake, but a team of editors and a host of advisers have done their collective best, resulting in a thorough, engrossing introduction to the American juggernaut's oeuvre.
Pocket Atlas of Remote Islands: Fifty Islands I Have Not Visited and Never Will by
by Judith Schalansky
No one can do it all, and if you could, you probably wouldn't want to. While that's not the message of Schalansky's illustrated traveler's consolation, it's one of the many implications of its curious, imaginative character. If you can't do it, draw it! Or write it! Or read it!
by Meghan Daum
Before Lena Dunham or Leslie Jamison there was Meghan Daum who happily reenters the personal-essay fray with this new collection.
Bow-Wow's Nightmare Neighbors
by Mark Newgaeden and Megan Montague Cash
Newgarden and Cash return with more worldess, Tintin-esque hijinks of Bow Wow and company.
