Atomic Books Comics Preview - March 20, 2015

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. The Mobtown Shank is his blog, and his comic Said What? is syndicated weekly in the Baltimore Sun's B-Paper.

Atomic Books has been named one of BuzzFeed's Great American Bookstores, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

Bob's Burgers Vol. 1

Bob's Burgers Vol. 1
by Rachel Hastings / Frank Forte / Chad Brewster / Robin Brigstocke

This volume collects the Bob's Burgers mini-series (not sure why it wasn't just done as an ongoing series, but oh well). If you love the show and want more if it, this is the next best thing.

Covers: Stories About Musicians

Covers: Stories About Musicians
by Jason Martin

Taking excerpts of musician biographies from various books (all listed and credited in the back of this comic), Jason then adapts and illustrates these stories to a very basic and readable comic form. Bob Dylan, Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Coltrane, Mike Watt, J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Kristin Hersh are all subjects. It's fun, engaging, and these sorts of anecdotes are just the thing we like hearing and knowing about our musical heroes. I wish there were like a monthly music magazine feature appearing in like Razorcake or Maximum Rocknroll - if they were - they'd always be the first thing I'd turn to.

Just So Happens

Just So Happens
by Fumio Obata

As a Japanese woman living in London, Yumiko finds herself caught between two worlds - both of which are home. When a tragic accident occurs, she must return to Japan and put many things to rest - but fortunately there is ritual and ceremony to help her along the way. Obata delivers a beautifully meditative story about life being ephemeral.
