Atomic Books Comics Preview - October 30, 2016

In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics, graphic novels, and books.

Benn Ray is the owner of Atomic Books, an independent bookstore in Baltimore. He also runs the Mutant Funnies Tumblr.

Atomic Books has been named one of BuzzFeed's Great American Bookstores, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.

Art Of Atari

Art Of Atari
by Tim Lapetino

For anyone who ever played an Atari game can attest, the box art was usually more compelling than the on-screen graphics. This gorgeous, genius of a book is a testament to the wonder and possibilities of the world of gaming.

Bait: Off-Color Stories For You To Color

Bait: Off-Color Stories For You To Color
by Chuck Palahniuk / Duncan Fegredo

The only thing better than a new collection of Palahniuk short stories is one that engages you to interact with it by coloring it in. Bait a coloring book, yes, but it is also a collection of stories.

Carry This Book

Carry This Book
by Abbi Jacobson

Broad City's Abbi Jacobson roots through the pockets and purses of people like Oprah, Donald Trump and Bernie Madoff and illustrates what she finds - okay, well she imagines what she might find if she were to do it. The results are a funny look at how the things we carry might also define us.

Dalí: Les Dîners de Gala

Dalí: Les Dîners de Gala
by Salvador Dalí

We've all been at a dinner party where the conversation eventually turns to what a Salvador Dali cookbook might like. There's the one friend who always insists it'd be a Paleo cookbook, and one who is certain it'd be a gluten-free cookbook. Well, turns out, they're both wrong. This is Dali's cookbook and guess what, it turns out his cuisine is more on the surreal side - or, at least his illustrations of these recipes from classic French chefs are on the surrealist side. This is beautiful novelty of a book that feels like a necessity once you start thumbing through it.

Moebius Library: The World of Edena

Moebius Library: The World of Edena
by Moebius

For years, readers have been searching for American collections of work from French comics legend Moebius without being able to find anything except for a handful of (admittedly awesome) collaborations he did with Alejandro Jodorowsky. Finally, Dark Horse plays the hero and releases this - the first of several collections in what will be the Moebius library. This one is a must.
