Shorties (An Interview with Haruki Murakami, An Interview with Andy Patridge, and more)

Novelist as a Vocation by Haruki Murakami

Interview magazine interviewed author Haruki Murakami about his new book.

Usually as I’m writing a novel, I’m completely immersed in that world. But once I finish the day’s work I go back to living normally in the ordinary world. I do the ironing, take the subway, and stop by used record shops. I’ve never had the experience of not being able to emerge from the world of the novel—being married, that would make things complicated.

The Guardian interviewed XTC's Andy Partridge.

The occasion for the interview is My Failed Christmas Career: the latest in a series of archival releases, it documents festive songs that Partridge wrote with the intention of selling to other artists. Other than two songs recorded by the Monkees, the rest never found buyers. Does he enjoy Christmas? “Oh, it’s fabulous,” he says in his lusty West Country burr. “It all comes from paganism.”
