Sports Upsets (Okay By Me)

It was 24 hours of the underdog as the United States opened their World Cup visit with a 3-2 win over Portugal (their first win EVER over a European opponent in the World Cup), and the Carolina Hurricanes won game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs over a heavily favored Red Wings team.

I was amazed how proud I felt when I heard about the World Cup upset. I guess I shouldn't haver been; I've seen our national teams several times (men's soccer, men's and women's ice hockey) and every time I'm transformed into a flag-waving patriot, proud of my country and all it stands for. FYI: Howard Street Design & Research has an informative and entertaining World Cup blog, if you're following the event.

In hockey, I'm pulling for the Hurricanes to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup at the end of this series. The Wings have been all but handed the championship, and may have forgotten that titles are won on the ice. And, is it just me, or has Dominik Hasek looked mortal this playoff season?
