After enjoying Luba: The Book of Ofelia by Gilbert Hernandez last year, I was primed to pick up the latest Love and Rockets collections by Los Bros Hernandez. Not having read the comics, I chose to read Maggie The Mechanic: Locas Stories Volume 1 by Jaime Hernandez. Collecting the earlier stories of Maggie, this book's sci-fi setting was at first a bit off-putting, but the storylines were tight and held up well, considering many were written 25 years ago. These stories represent the best of Jaime's Maggie the Mechanic stories, and it is easy to see why Love and Rockets is a comic held in such high esteem.
