I picked up Douglas Coupland's latest novel, The Gum Thief, after reading a quick blog post by Jodi at I Will Dare extolling the beginning of the book. Jodi seems to have similar literary tastes, so I dug into the book as soon as it arrived. Unfortunately, I missed her blog post about the book disappointing her, and I have to agree... Douglas Coupland used to be one of my favorite writers, but the stilted and forced form of this novel (a series of notes sent between the major characters, not to mention a ridiculous novel inside the novel), I could barely endure finishing the book. Another disappointment from Coupland...
